Word of God lived out in Community
As disciples of Jesus, we are called to live our faith every day of our lives. This is not always easy. The influence of culture, peers, and spiritual, physical, and
mental health is all part of how well one discerns the “right choice” in agiven moment. This is not excuse-making but the reality of how our well-being and the world
work.
The joy of being in a faith community is that we have a place to learn and reflect on the choices we will or have already made. As a denomination, the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) provides us, as individuals, congregations, and the larger church, with guiding documents for our actions in the larger world. Some are governing documents, such as our constitutions. Others are guides for our life in society.
The Social Statements of the ELCA are documents developed through intensive work by teams elected at the churchwide assembly. After they draft the statement, it is then shared with the whole denomination for study, review, and feedback. We are a church where our social statements are not the work of just Bishops or Seminary Professors but the whole church. The team then reviews the feedback and further edits the document. It is finally presented at a Churchwide Assembly for further amendments and for a vote to approve or not approve. This takes time, but it allows all interested persons to participate.
The current project of the ELCA is to review and possibly amend the Social Statement, “Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust.” I will be leading a study at Adult Forum, starting September 6, inviting you to reflect and share your feedback on the possible changes. We will use the document, “Conscience and Conversation: A Study during the Reconsideration of the Social Statement Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust”.
This is your time to review, reflect, and respond to the recommendations. It is a time for us to have conversations. Please reach out to me to get a copy of the study document, or email me, and I will send it to you.

We are a community
of faith that has been worshiping, learning, serving, and socializing for over 100 years.
The beautiful stained glass window sanctuary is accessible to all, and we encourage children to worship there as well or utilize the professionally staffed nursery. Communion is an important part of all Sunday services, and all who believe are invited to partake in the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. We look forward to welcoming you soon.
