PASTOR’S MESSAGE

Common Time: A Season to Dive Deep into Scripture

From that time Jesus began to proclaim, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” Matthew 4:17

The season after Pentecost (May 24th this year) is listed as the Sundays after Pentecost, but it is also referred to as “Common Time”. It was considered common time because there are fewer major feasts until we reach Christ the King Sunday, which concludes the liturgical year (November 22nd this year). This year, the Gospel readings are from the Gospel of Matthew. We will visit almost every verse of Jesus teaching and healing. As we move into summer, I encourage you to read Matthew. There are twenty-six weeks between May 24 and November 22. If you read one chapter a week, you will have completed most of the book before November 22.

Consider the following questions as you read. Feel free to make notes in your Bible or a separate journal.
1. What is missing that I expected?
2. What was included that I did not expect?
3. What part of this chapter(s) stood out for me the most? Why?
4. What more would I like to know about this chapter and what I read?
5. What does this chapter tell me about myself and my faith?
6. Where does this chapter call me to grow, change, or revisit my beliefs and actions as a disciple of Jesus?

Make great use of the common time, so that you become an uncommon disciple. Dive deep into the word and let it grow you and your faith. Let me know how it is going and where you may be struggling.

Peace,

Pastor Diana Thompson

WE ARE A COMMUNITY OF FAITH THAT HAS BEEN WORSHIPING, LEARNING, SERVING, AND SOCIALIZING FOR OVER 100 YEARS.

The beautiful stained glass window sanctuary is accessible to all, and we encourage children to worship there as well or utilize the professionally staffed nursery.  Communion is an important part of all Sunday services, and all who believe are invited to partake in the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.  We look forward to welcoming you soon.

Come back to our website often, as we are making updates weekly. For even more information you can download this month's Bethany News below.

Whether you are returning or visiting for the first time, we are excited to have you join us.
